About NDC
The National Design Centre is a statutory body dedicated to introducing new designs and providing related services to enhance the handicraft industry in Sri Lanka.Its activities focus on contributing to the sustainable development of Sri Lanka through the promotion of environmentally friendly handicrafts. These initiatives include “value addition, diversification” and engaging in conservation activities, increasing productivity through research and development activities, strengthening entrepreneurial skills, creating employment opportunities through training and creating employment opportunities.The National Design Centre was established in 1983 under the National Crafts Council and Affiliated Institutions Act No. 35 of 1982 and operates under the Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development.
